New Chapters

Denim Pictures

A new adventure awaits as I take on the role of Head of Books for Denim Pictures - their literary scout for book adaptations. This feels like a natural expansion of my reading, curating and interviewing work. I can’t wait to connect further with writers and publishers to bring more timeless and inspiring stories to the screen.

The Stella Prize

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve been asked to join the judging panel for the 2027 Stella Prize. Stella is the powerful voice for gender equity and cultural change in Australian literature. Their flagship program is the annual Stella Prize – a major literary award celebrating Australian women and non-binary writing. I’m so honoured to be a part of it in 2027.

  • “Interviewing me onstage is not a walk in the park, but Michaela was fully up to the job. Flexible, smart, light on her toes, funny - a good time was had by all, me and the audience included.”

    Margaret Atwood

  • "A conversation is a kind of collaborative artwork made by both / all participants, and in this spirit, Michaela is a gifted co-creator."

    David Mitchell

  • "You could not possibly find a wiser, deeper, funnier, more professional person to be interviewed by or have moderate an event."

    Trent Dalton, Author

  • "When you combine a questing mind and rigorous research with a big warm heart, you get one of the best interviewers in Australia. That’s Michaela Kalowski, every writer’s - and audience’s - dream interviewer."
