The Paris Daughter: In Conversation with Kristin Harmel

Kristin Harmel's novels are mostly set in or after WW2 and often in France. She writes historical detail with beauty - finding powerful ways to bring the past to life, without changing history.

We spoke about how she does it all - the inspiration she draws from historical artefacts, how she thinks about works of fiction being part of the way collective memories of WW2 are preserved, and also the way her books are love letters to bookstores and libraries.
